Chemical Research in Toxicology invites all interested and eligible members of the community to apply or nominate for membership in the Early Career Board. Duties of Board members include guiding the Journal in the development of its diversity plan and expanding its editorial content. We seek Early Career Board members who will be actively engaged in these activities, where the Early Career Board members are expected to contribute one or more articles in the form of ToxWatch, Reviews, or Perspectives. We also encourage Early Career Board members’ volunteer participation in the Journal’s social media engagement, e.g., by providing content for tweets. Through our Board members, Chemical Research in Toxicology seeks input and advice from researchers at all stages of their careers in the field of chemical toxicology. To assist in engaging early career authors, readers, and reviewers, Chemical Research in Toxicology decided to create its first Early Career Board in 2024. The Early Career Board is expected to enhance the Editorial Advisory Board and offer junior researchers in the chemical toxicology field a pathway toward Board membership without competing with senior colleagues. Early Career Board members have the opportunity to participate fully in the Board activities of the Journal. For consideration in the Early Career Board, the candidate should provide a list of up to five of their most relevant publications and a concise statement of no more than 500 words addressing the following open-ended questions: Based on your perception of the strengths of Chemical Research in Toxicology and challenges or opportunities in the field, what is your sense of new directions and topical areas for the Journal consistent with its mission and scope? Noting the Journal is asking members of the Board to contribute to the development of Journal front matter material (Editorials and ToxWatch articles), what are the topical areas to which you might contribute? What expertise and perspectives do you bring to this effort? Noting that the Journal is asking Board members to assist in developing a diversity plan, what abilities and perspectives do you bring to such an effort? Is there any other unique perspective you bring that we should be aware of? Applications and nominations are due by April 15, 2024. Details are shown in the list below. If you have questions, please send them to eic@crt.acs.org. Details to apply or nominate for Early Career Board membership: Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by a senior investigator in the field of chemical toxicology and may, though they are not required to, include up to two letters of support. The application will be reviewed by a committee comprised of the Editors and three members of the Editorial Advisory Board. The selected Early Career Board members will be invited to join the Board immediately after selection in Spring 2024 and will serve an initial term of two years, with the possibility for reappointment provided that the candidate still qualifies for the Early Career Board at the end of the initial appointment. Eligibility: Faculty members and nonacademic scientists who are, by the nomination deadline, within 8 years of terminal degree (Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent). If a candidate has taken career breaks due to personal circumstances (e.g., caring responsibilities or health-related needs) rendering them ineligible under the 8-year timeline described above, please email eic@crt.acs.org to discuss an extension of the eligibility period. This article has not yet been cited by other publications.
