Concentration dependence of Tb in Na2O–B2O3–SiO2 glass on dosimetric properties

We prepared Na2O–B2O3–SiO2 glasses doped with different Tb concentrations (0.00, 0.01, 0.03, 0.1, 0.3, 1.0, 3.0 %) by the melt-quenching method. All the samples showed a high transmittance of 90 % in the visible range. The Tb-doped samples showed absorptions at 350, 380, and 480 nm derived from Tb3+. Photoluminescence (PL) peaks were detected at 410, 440, 490, 550, 590, and 620 nm, and the intensity of which increased as the Tb concentration increased. The PL lifetimes of the Tb-doped samples were 2.7–3.8 ms which were typical values for 4f-4f transitions of Tb3+. In the thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) properties, glow peaks of the Tb-doped samples were observed at around 90 and 235–325 °C. The 0.1 % Tb-doped sample could work as a TSL dosimeter in the dose range of 0.1 mGy–10 Gy.
