A heart of gold: A simple and novel synthetic route was developed to fabricate the multifunctional branched PEG–Au–Fe3O4 Janus nanoparticles for simultaneous trimodal X-ray computed tomography/magnetic resonance/photoacoustic imaging and synergistic photothermal cancer therapy in vitro.
