Charge separation on a protein surface: Long-lived photo-driven charge separation is achieved by assembling a triad consisting of a biotinylated triarylamine and a RuII–streptavidin conjugate bearing a methyl viologen electron-acceptor covalently linked to the N-terminus of streptavidin (Sav). The rate and the lifetime of the electron transfer was improved by introduction of a negative patch through mutagenesis close to the binding pocket of Sav.
