Antiferromagnetic Kondo lattice CeIrGe 2

Abstract A novel ternary intermetallic germanide CeIrGe 2 has been studied by means of x-ray diffraction, magnetization, specific heat and electrical resistivity measurements, performed in wide ranges of temperature and external magnetic fields. The compound crystallizes in an orthorhombic structure of the CeNiSi 2 -type (space group Cmcm ). It exhibits a Kondo lattice behavior and orders antiferromagnetically at 4 K.
