Selective esterification of d-glucuronic acid and d-galacturonic acid leads to modified acceptors for the levansucrase of Bacillus megaterium. Fructosylation of these monosaccharides results in a new class of sucrose analogue esters. With this method, selective monoesterification of the 6-position in sucrose is allowed.
