Ooh LA LA: The reductive amination of levulinic acid with a variety of aliphatic amines and aniline derivatives including sterically hindered amines is presented. The reaction is promoted by an iridium catalyst operating at low loading and 5 bar H2 under neat conditions. The catalyst was also efficient for the synthesis of N-aryl isoindolinone in high yields.
