Acidic treatment of planar-chiral ferrocenylmethanols resulted in the formation of α-ferrocenyl carbocations, which underwent electrophilic aromatic substitution reactions with electron-rich aromatics or could be sulfurized by the thiophosphinyl group by an intermolecular process, resulting in thio ethers.
