Beneath the layers: N-doped porous carbon (NPC) monolayers are synthesized and show great potential for gas storage with a H2 uptake of up to 2.96 wt % at 77 K and a CO2 adsorption capability of 23.4 wt % at 278 K and 0.1 MPa. This N-decorated carbon material, as the first near-IR (NIR)-triggered carbon photocatalyst, exhibits pronounced H2 production capabilities under full solar spectrum and NIR irradiation. NP=nanoparticle, TEA=triethylamine.
