We congratulate the authors of the Ketamine-ECT Study Group trial¹ of low-dose ketamine augmentation of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). This is important work, both for improving the treatment of depression, and for its contribution to neuroscience. One possible contribution of this paper that the authors did not discuss is the dose-range of ketamine protection of memory functioning during ECT. Our patients who experienced memory protection during ECT received ketamine anaesthesia at a dose between 0·8 and 1·0mg/kg.
