Righting the NAD(P)+s: the catalytic promiscuity of hemoglobin was exploited for regenerating nicotinamide cofactors [NAD(P)+] in situ. The new NAD(P)+ regeneration system was coupled with horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase (HLADH) for upgrading bio-based furanics into target acids, with good yields.
