An excellent Article¹ has been published in The Lancet Respiratory Medicine on the risk and disease estimates of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma as part of the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2015. The Article provides a good overview of the mortality, prevalence, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and years lived with disability for the two most common respiratory diseases. The findings show that the prevalence of and mortality due to COPD, as well as the prevalence of asthma, increased between 1990 and 2015.
