Yunzi Luo Professor State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology
PI of State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, Tianjin University and Director of the International Joint Laboratory of Synthetic Biology, Ministry of Education. Prof. Luo graduated from Tianjin University with a bachelor's degree in 2008 and a doctor's degree from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign in 2014. From June 2014 to March 2015, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Institute for Genomic Biology, University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. From 2015 to 2019, she was a researcher in the State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, Sichuan University. From 2019 to 2025, she was a professor in School of Chemical Engineering, Tianjin University. Since 2025, she has been a professor in School of Synthetic Biology and Biomanufacturing. In 2016, she was selected as one of the National Talent program. At present, she is a member of the Synthetic Biology Committee of the Chinese Society of Bioengineering, a member of the Young Scholars Working Committee of the Chinese Biochemical Industry, and a member of the Youth Working Committee of the Chinese Bioengineering Association. Prof. Luo’s laboratory is mainly engaged in the optimization and transformation of gene editing tools by using synthetic biology technology, and applied these tools to the new drug development. She has published more than 30 papers in the international well-known journals. In 2019, she was approved as the project leader of the National Key R & D Plan "Synthetic Biology".
