个人简介

Habib’s first degree was in Agricultural Science at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (Pakistan). He was the highest ranked student in the year and was awarded the Silver Medal for this achievement, followed by a PhD in Plant Science at the University of Adelaide (Australia), working on the physiological role of zinc in drought-induced osmotic adjustment in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.). Subsequent research on grain legumes at National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Islamabad was continued before joining the University of Wolverhampton. Whilst working there, his subject interests broadened, to include many aspects of plant and crop science, including plant phenomics. His fundamental research is on physiological responses of plants to changing climate and the improvement of crop productivity under stress environments. Current research is concerned with applying this fundamental knowledge to the development of more sustainable crop production in areas prone to drought and nutrient deficiency. Additionally his research focuses on the improvement of biomass and energy crops, especially Miscanthus. At Wolverhampton he has completed a European Union-funded project ‘Faba Bean Breeding for Sustainable Agriculture’ and he recently headed a major project on Miscanthus in collaboration with the company Biomass Industrial Crops (Bical) Ltd. Habib teaches a broad range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the biological statistics and plant biology area.
