Combinatorial and Bioorganic Chemistry Combinatorial chemistry is a powerful technology allowing simultaneous preparation of diverse, novel and biologically active molecules for drug discovery and development. We are particularly interested in exploiting this technology to search for novel organic compounds and natural product derivatives which exhibit interesting biological properties. Specific foci are on the development of potential neurological, anti-cancer and antiviral agents. Green Chemical Synthesis We are also interested in designing new synthetic methodologies that are more environmentally benign, which simplify synthesis and maximize the desired product. We are interested in developing recyclable reagents and catalysts that facilitate reactions in aqueous medium. Figure 1: (A) Inhibition of human lung cancer xenografts growth in vivo by 1g; (B) human lung tumor tissues with in vivo 1g treatment displayed an increase in activated caspase 3 protein expression [J Med Chem, 2010, 53, 7967-7978]. Fluorous, oxime-based palladacycle 1 is a thermally stable and versatile precatalyst that efficiently promotes various carbon-carbon bond formation reactions (Suzuki-Miyaura, Sonogashira and Stille) in aqueous medium under microwave irradiation. Palladacycle 1 gave extremely low levels of Pd leaching and could be reused five times with no significant loss of activity [Green Chem, 2012, 14, 77-80].
