After studying with the Open University for 5 years I completed my degree in Biology at the University of Aberdeen in 1999. I went straight on to work towards my PhD with Prof. Chris Secombes, SFIRC, University of Aberdeen, studying the effects of CpG ODN on the immune system of rainbow trout. On completion of my PhD I worked as a research fellow with Chris, focusing on the development of antibody-based assays to identify and quantify protein production in fish cells. I also undertook FACS analysis of rainbow trout cells from na?ve and vaccinated /disease challenged fish. In November 2007 I moved to the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition to embark on a position as a Teaching Fellow where one of my main responsibilities was to co-ordinate the industrial placement scheme for undergraduate students within the school. I now co-ordinate and teach on a number of programmes/courses at post graduate and undergraduate level (see below). I chair the School of Medical Sciences Undergraduate Programme Advisory Board, which aims to increase and strengthen the links between the School of Medical Sciences and potential future employers of our students. I also convene the College Employability Sub-Committee and sit on the internal advisory board for the Kosterlitz Centre for Therapeutics.
