个人简介

I am a senior research fellow in the Institute of Biological and Environmental Science.

研究领域

Sustainable managed pollinators are a pre-requisite for food security in a growing world and our lab works on RCUK and EU research programs that couple pioneering state of the art technology with classical techniques towards ameliorating pollinator decline and pathogen contorl. Our projects recently pioneered ground-breaking research using reverse-genetics that will significantly advance both the field of honey bee health and pest control (Campbell et al 2010, 2015). We have recently established a University apiary with 20 hives dedicated to research with associated infrastructure and on-site lab space; that provides material and experimental resources. In addition we have a dedicated environmentally controlled research insectory and flight cages for various experimental approaches. By combining cutting-edge molecular biology; including large-scale RNAi, next-generation sequencing, in vitro rearing techniques and viral diversity quantification with traditional entomological approaches and a strong support network our lab is uniquely positioned to further tackle global pollinator decline.
