个人简介

Michael Reithofer studied Chemistry at the University of Vienna (winning an Award of Academic Excellence every year from the University) where he graduated with a Magistra rerum naturalium (Mag.rer.nat.; equivalent to an MChem) in 2005. Michael stayed in Vienna to pursue his post graduate studies with Prof. Dr. Dr. Bernhard Keppler where he worked on novel platinum(IV) anticancer compounds. This work was recognized with an Award of Excellence for Outstanding Ph.D. Research by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Science and Research. Following his graduation as Dr.rer.nat, Michael received the prestigious Erwin Schrödinger Fellowship from the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) which enabled him to work together with the Nobel Prize Laureate Prof. Richard Schrock at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on the development of novel metathesis catalysts, leading to a patent with Professor Schrock.. He also worked on dinitrogen activation on novel molybdenum complexes. Thereafter, Michael joined the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, an A*STAR research institute in Singapore where he worked on carbon dioxide activation and on self-assembling ultrashort peptides for drug delivery. Michael joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Hull in November 2014.

Biological Chemistry

Our research utilizes synthetic chemistry to address important health care problems. We are interested in studying peptide-based materials as drug delivery agents, especially in anti-cancer therapy. We are also interested in utilizing peptidic materials as templates for nanostructures. My group is actively seeking PhD students for multiple projects and self-funded students are strongly encouraged to contact me.
