个人简介

Michael graduated from the UEA in 2007 as part of the first cohort of students through the MPharm degree. He started his professional life as a community pharmacist with the National Co-operative working mostly in the Great Yarmouth area. In the first six months after qualifying he could see that there was greater potential for the role of the community pharmacist in the care of patients rather than purely supply of medicines. The led him to start a PhD under the supervision of Prof David Wright in 2009 examining whether there was a role for community pharmacists in the management of long term conditions. He started this part-time whilst continuing to practice but eventually converted to full time, finishing in September 2012. Since commencing his role as a Research Fellow in Pharmacy Practice, Michael has been involved in many research applications and projects with the main focus of investigating the role of the community pharmacist in the care of patients with long term conditions. Most notably at present, Michael is part of the team responsible for evaluating the Community Pharmacy Future project (a collaboration between the four leading community pharmacy companies in the UK). Other significant research interests include the use of medicines in pregnancy (in collaboration with the University of Oslo), pharmacists’ consultation skills (in collaboration with the Centre for Pharmacy Postgraduate Education) and the monitoring and prescribing of lithium (in collaboration with the local mental health trust). Michael also has a significant teaching role within the School with a focus on research skills, professional practice and communication skills. Until December 2013, Michael was also the lead of the East Anglia Practice Forum, which is the local division of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Michael is always keen to develop further collaborations both in the UK and internationally so please feel free to contact him if you have an idea for a research project.
