Data is the bedrock of science and the Internet enables elements of data from laboratories around the world to be collected together. New discoveries lie dormant in this ocean of data - but only if we devise the right tools for discovery. "Science is built upon facts, as a house is built of stones; but an accumulation of facts is no more a science that a heap of stones is a house." (Henri Poincare) At the Centre for Molecular Informatics within the Department of Chemistry at Cambridge powerful computers enable us to research in silico novel molecular properties from this data. With our partners around the world, in academia and industry, we are devising new methods of creating, manipulating and describing molecular data and new laboratory experiments to confirm our findings.
