Qi Xianghui is a professor and doctoral supervisor, a talent selected under the "Hundred Talents Program", a prominent discipline leader, and the head of the Synthetic Biology and Bio-manufacturing Team at Guangzhou University. He has been included in the list of the World's Top 2% scientists, recognized as a provincial High-level Talent, and a Distinguished Chair Professor. He was also a nominee for the "Person of the Year in the Environment and Textile Field of Chinese Scientists" in 2018. He serves as a member of the Enzyme Preparation Branch of the Chinese Institute of Food Science and Technology and a member of the Guangzhou Synthetic Biology Industry- University-Research Technology Innovation Alliance. His main research focuses on the Basic and Applied Research of Synthetic Biology for Natural Products, Pharmaceuticals, and High-value Chemicals. Specifically, he has carried out a series of research in areas such as the development of microbial engineering strains, the discovery of new enzymes, directed evolution and rational design of enzymes, the design and modification of chassis cells, the development of cell factory, and the development and function of prebiotics/probiotics. He has presided over more than 10 national-level projects, including the National Key R & D Program, the National Natural Science Foundation, and international cooperation projects. He has published over 200 papers in well-known academic journals such as Sci Bull, Curr Biol, Biotechnol Adv, Chem Eng J, Bioresource Technol, J Clean Prod, ACS Sustain Chem Eng, J Agr Food Chem, and ACS Synth Biol. More than 100 of these papers are as the First or Corresponding author (with a cumulative Impact Factor of over 900 points, 6 Highly Cited papers, and 1 Hot paper). He has edited 2 English monographs and 1 Chinese textbook, and participated in the compilation of 9 Chinese and English monographs. He has applied for more than 60 Chinese invention patents, 2 PCT patents, and has been granted 1 UK patent and more than 30 Chinese patents. He has won 3 First-class and 2 Third-class Awards in National-level competitions, 1 First-Class, 2 Second-class, and 2 Third-class Awards for various provincial-level achievements. He has also won the award for excellent supervisor of provincial-level outstanding postgraduate thesis, and has received multiple honorary titles such as excellent teacher and excellent graduate supervisor. He serves as the deputy Editor-in-Chief of Journals like Front Bioeng Biotech (JCR Q1) and Front Mol Biosci (JCR Q1), Guest Editor of Journals such as Foods (JCR Q1) and Appl Food Biotechnol (JCR Q2), and a Review expert for more than 200 journals. He also acts as a Review expert for National level Talents, National Key R & D Programs, the National Natural Science Foundation, International Cooperation projects, foreign projects, and High-tech Enterprises, as well as a Performance Evaluation expert for National Key R & D Programs.
