主要成果：近年来主持国家自然科学基金重点项目2项、国家重点研发计划项目1项。以通讯作者在Nature Microbiol, Nature Commun, Microbiome, ISME J, Environ Microbiol等发表论文100余篇，被引用4300余次。主编《海洋微生物学》（2007年第1版，2016年第2版）。两次获得海洋科学技术奖二等奖（第1位）。近三年主持的主要科研项目 2018.01－2022.12：主持国家自然科学基金重点项目“弧菌在我国边缘海的生态分布及在碳循环中的作用研究”（41730530）。经费376.4万元（直接经费315万元）。 2018.01－2021.12：主持国家自然科学基金委“水圈微生物驱动地球元素循环的机制”重大研究计划重点支持项目“海洋异养细菌对DMSP/DMS产生的贡献及驱动硫循环的机制：以马里亚纳海沟为例”（91751202）。经费382.3万元（直接经费320万元）。 2020.01－2022.12：主持国家重点研发计划政府间国际科技创新合作重点专项“以弧菌作为生物感应器指示全球/区域变化的研究”(2018YFE0124100)。经费288万元。
