个人简介

Neuropathic pain, a chronic debilitating condition affecting more than 3 million people in North America, imposes a significant burden on society by diminishing the individual's quality of life, and producing an enormous impact on healthcare costs, predicted to be over $100 million annually. Medical therapy for neuropathic pain continues to be a challenge for physicians as this pain is typically refractory to conventional treatments including opioid analgesics. Hence, a sustained research effort is required for elucidating the mechanisms underlying neuropathic pain in an attempt to address this largely unmet medical need. The focus of research in my laboratory is to explore the underlying mechanisms of chronic pain using behavioural, neuroanatomical and biochemical techniques.
