I joined the University of Lincoln in 2014 as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Bioacoustics and Sensory Biology lab of Dr. Fernando Montealegre-Z, where I am working on the evolution of acoustic communication signals by examining fossil and extant insects. Before joining the University of Lincoln, I did my PhD in courtship behaviour and song production in Drosophila in Prof. Daniel Robert’s lab at the University of Bristol. I am generally interested in animal acoustic communication and behaviour in all its varieties, but especially in the bioacoustics and biomechanics of the sound producing and sound perceiving organs (namely the wings and ears) in crickets and bushcrickets. To investigate these fascinating structures, I am using a variety of methods, from basic sound recording for song analysis, laser-Doppler vibrometry to examine the vibrational properties of wings and ears to micro computer tomography for developing detailed physical and computational models.
