个人简介

Helen has been a lecturer at Huddersfield University since 2003, having previously worked in the food industry. She had a technical role at Chivers Hartley in Cambridgeshire, implementing HACCP (a hazard analysis system) and then several years as Technical Manager for Ivory Foods in Elland, West Yorkshire. Her primary responsibilities in this role were overseeing the food safety, systems, procedures and staff training for the plant as well as successfully leading the team in gaining EFSIS (European Food Safety Inspection Standard) Accreditation. She graduated with a BSc degree from the University of Huddersfield and continued at Huddersfield to carry out research into the prolonged fermentation of lactic acid bacteria, leading to the award of PhD. On returning to the University as a lecturer, Helen now uses her experience from the food industry together with knowledge gained from research, in teaching on eight different modules. These include undergraduate and postgraduate modules, being module leader for four of these. Her main areas of teaching include food safety, microbiology and food poisoning. Helen is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and through a keen interest in developing strategies for teaching and learning has gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education from The University of Huddersfield. She is also an approved trainer of HACCP qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health. Helen is actively involved with the the Institute of Food Science and Technology as a member of the North of England Branch committee and as a member of the Accreditation Assessment Panel for BSc and Msc courses.
