个人简介

I obtained my PhD from the University of Bristol working on the biosynthesis of polyunsaturated fatty acids and triacylglycerol assembly and this was followed by a number of postdoctoral positions in leading lipid laboratories in Uppsala (Sweden), Cardiff and Bristol. I was appointed Research Leader at Horticulture Research International (1994) and led a team investigating lipid metabolism in plants and was promoted to Senior Research Leader in 2002. In 2005, I joined Aston University as a Lecturer in Chemistry teaching biological chemistry across the undergraduate curriculum and developed research on lipid oxidation. Over the past six years my research has focused on the oxidative behaviour of high value plant oils and ‘green’ agrochemicals based on plant oxylipins structures (molecular mimicking). In 2011, I moved my research to the European Bioenergy Research Institute (EBRI) at Aston University where I lead the Algal Research Laboratory. Current research is focused on oxylipin and polyamine metabolism and their influence on biomass production using the green unicellular microalga, Chlamydomonas, as a model system. My biochemical expertise combined with thermochemical processing expertise within EBRI has led to a number of recent advances in the area of product formation from intermediate pyrolysis.
