Lining Sun is a Full Professor of Chemistry and Material Science in Shanghai University. She received her Ph.D. degree from State Key Laboratory of Rare Earth Resource Utilization, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Supervisor: Prof. Hongjie Zhang) in January 2008. Then, from March 2008 to September 2009, she has been as an Alexander-von-Humboldt Research Fellow in University of Regensburg, Germany, working with Prof. Otto S. Wolfbeis. In September 2009, she joined Shanghai University as an associate professor. Since March 2016, she has worked as a full professor.
Her research interest mainly focuses on rare-earth doped upconversion luminescent materials for sensing, bioimaging, and therapy applications.
Up to now, Prof. Sun has published around 130 scientific papers, such as Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., Adv. Funct. Mater., ect, which were cited by more than 7700 times. Her H-index is 48 (google scholar). She has applied for 55 patents, and 26 of them have been authorized (One of the patents has been assigned). In addition, she contributed a book chapter of 'Near-Infrared Materials' in the book of "The Rare Earths: Fundamentals and Applications" (2012, edited by David A. Atwood. Chichester, UK: John Wiley & Sons), and a book chapter of Renrui Sun, Lining Sun*, “Rare-earth upconversion luminescence and its applications: from molecular to nano and micro scales”, in “Handbook on the Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths”, 2024, Vol. 65, Chapter 337, page 1-33.
