He received his Ph.D. from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST/UST, Korea) in Mar. 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Nam-Gyu Park and Prof. Min Jae Ko, and then moved to the University of California-San Diego (UCSD, US) for his first postdoc until June 2014 and then the second postdoc in the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Spain) as the Marie Curie International Incoming Fellow until Sept. 2016. He also stayed as a visiting scholar at the Clarendon Laboratory of the University of Oxford (2015) and the Cavendish Laboratory of Cambridge University (2018). Since Oct. 2016, he has been an Associate Professor at Nankai University and promoted as Full Professor on Jan. 2025.

  His research mainly focuses on novel optoelectronic materials and devices such as perovskite solar cells (rigid and flexible type), perovskite single crystals, tandem solar cells ( perovskite/Si, perovskite/perovskite, perovskite/OPV, etc), flexible energy electronics, light trapping (such as photonic crystals, bioinspired structures, textured structures, etc), etc. He achieved a record efficiency of 8.55% on a plastic flexible dye-sensitized solar cell, invented the first perovskite quantum dot junction with the observation of room-temperature quantum interference, developed a fully roller-coated perovskite solar cell; published over 80 papers in renowned academic journals such as Energy & Environmental Science, Nature Communications, Nano Letters, Nano Energy, Advanced Functional Materials and so on. He has over 50 papers as the first or corresponding author, including 2 papers in Energy & Environmental Science and 2 papers in Nature Communications. He applied for more than 40 invention patents from the China Patent Office and was authorized 19 patents in the US, Korea, PCT, and China. He had more than 20 invited or oral talks and was the Session Chairman at the international conference.

  He is taking charge of and accomplished the National Key R&D Program of China, the European Union" Horizon 2020"project, the General Project of the Natural Science Foundation of China, the General Project of Natural Science Foundation of Tianjin City, Open Fund of Key Lab of Ministry of Education of China, Company funded project and so on.
