Dr. Xiangyu Liang is a Research Professor (PI, Director of S&BM) at the Bioinspired Materials Center, Shenzhen Institute of Genomics (AGIS), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). Dr. Liang is also a joint supervisor in the Department of Biology and Medicine at the Northwest University and a joint supervisor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Huazhong Agricultural University. Dr. Liang was selected for the "Excellent Young Talent" honor of CAAS,“Outstanding Young Talent”honor of Hunan Province, "Peacock Talent" honor of Shenzhen city. Dr. Liang grew up in Guangdong, China. He received his master and PhD from the Department of Polymer Science and the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Engineering of Polymers at Fudan University (Professor Ding Jiandong Lab), and subsequently completed his post-doctoral fellow training and worked as a senior research scholar at Southern University of Science and Technology (Professor Liu Ji Lab). In 2022, he joined AGIS, CAAS as a PI. Dr. Liang mainly focus on the development of bio-inspired materials/devices design and manufacturing for food science, tissue engineering, soft robots, biomedical devices, sustainable and durable substitute. In recent years, Dr. Liang has published more than 20 papers and 5 patents, mainly in international authoritative journals (Nature Communication, Advanced Materials, Cell Reports Physical Science, Advanced Functional Materials, et al). Dr. Liang is currently in charge of National Natural Science Foundation, CAAS Innovation project major project, Guangdong provincial Natural Science Foundation, Hunan provincial Natural Science Foundation and Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Talents Training Project, et al. Dr. Liang has won the Outstanding Youth Academic Report at China Materials Conference, Excellent Poster Award at the Chinese Biomaterials Conference, winner of Shenzhen Science and Technology Competition, Shenzhen Excellent Scientific and Technological Paper Award, Outstanding Postdoctoral Award of Shenzhen City, et al. Currently, Dr. Liang is a member of the International Association of Bionic Engineering, a senior member of the Chinese Society of Biomaterials, a member of Young Editorial Board of <MedMat>, <Journal of Bionic Engineering> and <Exploration>, and Guest Editor of <Polymers> and <Micromachines>. Currently, Dr. Liang's research program, in collaboration with the S & BM team and other partners, spans a wide range of innovative areas in biomedicine and engineering. The lab's work encompasses the development of advanced materials for improving durability, delivering biologicals and promoting tissue repair. A significant focus is placed on creating soft devices for applications in extreme environments. To support these diverse research streams, the lab develops diverse underwater robots, ex-vivo and in-vitro cell/tissue/animal models to study material mechanical behaviors, drug transport and tissue behaviors.
