Wenbin Du is a Professor at the Institute of Microbiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IMCAS), and a member of the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Diversity and Innovative Utilization. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Zhejiang University in 2007 and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago with Professor Rustem F. Ismagilov from 2007 to 2011. In 2011, he became an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Renmin University of China, and in 2013, he joined IMCAS. Since 2016, he has also served as a professor at the School of Medicine, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). His honors include the CAS Hundred Talents Program, the NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund, and the National Young Talent Program. He serves on the editorial boards of mLife and Eco-Environment & Health, and has authored more than one hundred publications in journals such as PNAS, Advanced Science, JACS, Angewandte Chemie, and Analytical Chemistry.
Du's laboratory develops microfluidics and analytical microbiology technologies with an emphasis on single-cell measurement and high-throughput screening. He is the inventor of SlipChip and OsciDrop, holds more than seventy patents including eleven U.S. patents, and has led or participated in more than twenty national and provincial projects, serving as Chief Scientist for two National Key R&D Program projects in molecular diagnostic instruments and epidemic-prevention technologies. His team’s chipless, oscillation-induced droplet digital PCR systems have been successfully commercialized. His group continues to push the frontiers of microfluidics, microbiology, and synthetic biology.
