Dr. Shaohua Chen (chenshaohua@mail.sysu.edu.cn) is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Flexible Electronics of Sun Yat-sen University (Shenzhen). Chen’s research mainly focuses on two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, including their preparation, modification, macroscopic assembly, and applications in flexible devices. Chen has developed a mechanochemical exfoliation method to achieve green and efficient preparation of 2D nanomaterials such as boron nitride; invented non-liquid crystal spinning method to prepare high-strength and porous graphene fibers; established very handy modification methods (alkali neutralization and molecular-level hybridization) for 2D nanomaterials, significantly improving the mechanical, stability, and electrochemical properties of graphene fibers and MXene films; developed multifunctional thermal conductive films, flexible wearable supercapacitors, and low-voltage soft actuators.
Up to October 2025, Chen has published over 30 papers in academic journals such as Chemical Reviews, Nature Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials, Nature Communications, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Science, and Nano Energy, with over 3000 citations; obtained 9 issued patents; co-authored 1 monograph. Chen has served as an independent reviewer for journals such as ACS Energy Letters, Energy Storage Materials, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, and Science and Technology of Advanced Materials.
