中村荣一教授是国际知名的有机化学家，现任南开大学讲座教授，曾长期担任东京大学教授、特别教授及分子技术创新讲座教授，并于东京工业大学获得学士及博士学位。他于1978年至1980年在哥伦比亚大学从事博士后研究，之后在东京工业大学及东京大学开展了数十年的教学与科研工作，自1980年起任教于东京工业大学，1995年转入东京大学任教授，2016年起担任分子技术创新讲座教授，2019年起为特别教授，2024年12月正式受聘南开大学为讲座教授。

中村教授是美国科学院外籍会士，英国皇家学会院士，美国化学会会士，英国皇家化学会会士，欧洲化学会会士以及日本化学会会士。他长期致力于有机金属化学、有机合成化学、催化化学及现代电子材料化学研究，尤其在电子显微镜技术用于有机分子研究方面取得国际首创性成果，在电子显微镜技术应用于有机电功能材料研究方面取得了开创性的理论突破和实验成就。中村教授的研究在分子结构可视化、分子轨道调控、微观反应机制分析等前沿领域均处于国际领先地位，成果发表于Science（5篇）、Nature（1篇）、Nature子刊（10余篇）、JACS（170余篇）等国际一流期刊，总发表论文超过500篇，总引用次数超过5万次。他曾荣获2024年日本瑞宝章、2009年日本紫绶勋章、2006年美国研究奖、2010年Arthur C. Cope学者奖、2014年英国皇家化学会百年奖等诸多重要学术荣誉。

Prof. Nakamura earned his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. After postdoctoral research at Columbia University, he returned to his alma mater as an Assistant Professor in 1980, before moving to the University of Tokyo in 1995. He currently holds the positions of University Professor and the Molecular Technology Innovation Endowed Chair and Lecture Professor of Nankai University, Tianjin. 

His research spans synthetic and physical chemistry, focusing on the functions of organic and inorganic substances. In 2007, he pioneered the use of atomic-resolution transmission electron microscopy to study molecular motions and reactions at the single-molecule level, known as single-molecule atomic-resolution time-resolved electron microscopy (SMART-EM). 

His work has earned multiple awards, including Honorary Foreign Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2008), the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award (2010) from the American Chemical Society, the 55th Fujiwara Award (2014), and the Royal Society of Chemistry's Centenary Prize (2014). He has received The Medal with Purple Ribbon (2009), The Order of the Sacred Treasure Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon from His Majesty the Emperor (2024), and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (2025).
