Bin Zhao
Professor
Introduction :
Bin Zhao is a professor at the National Clinical Research Center for Metabolic Diseases at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, and Furong Laboratory at the Central South University. He obtained his Ph.D. from Karolinska Institutet (CMB) and completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania and the National Institutes of Health. His research integrates multi-omics and transgenic mouse models to identify key therapeutic targets underlying T- and B-cell developmental and metabolic dysregulation in autoimmune diseases. In parallel, his group leverages large population-based cohorts to develop risk prediction models for metabolic and autoimmune disorders.
Since establishing his research group in China in 2021, his team has published in prestigious journals, including JAMA Internal Medicine(2024)、Circulation (2022), Nature Immunology (2019), EBioMedicine(2025), Nature Metabolism (2025)and Nature Communications(2024). He has received multiple grants, including the Major National Science and Technology Project:"Environmental Stress–Immune Mechanisms in Type 1 Diabetes","Innovative Drug Development for Metabolic Diseases", the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Swedish Medical Society, and Major Science and Technology Project of Hunan Province. Additionally, He serves as an executive director of the Basic Immunology Branch of the Asia-Pacific Medical and Biological Immunology Society, deputy chairman of the Youth Committee of the Hunan Immunology Society, and an associate editor of BMC Medicine as well as board member of journals like Phenomics and Life Medicine.
