Our interests include fundamental investigations on nanomaterials and their interactions with molecules and light. We use ultrafast spectroscopy and nonlinear spectroscopy, such as time-resolved second harmonic generation (SHG) and sum frequency generation (SFG), to study molecular adsorption, molecular structure and orientation, and energy and electron transfer at nanoparticle surfaces, either supported on substrates or in colloidal suspension. Additionally, our work focuses on potential advances in applications of molecular sensing, catalysis, and solar energy. Current projects in our group involve nanoparticle synthesis and characterization as well as electrical and optical techniques using ultrafast laser systems to develop experimental insight on chemical dynamics at nanoparticle interfaces.
