Fabio Quondamatteo is a professional and licensed Anatomist with a strong interest and background in Electron Microscopy. After the medical qualification in 1992 at the University of Bari in Italy, he briefly worked in the German Primate Centre in Göttingen as a Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (ie researcher/lecturer at a junior level) and then, in January 1993, he joined the Department of Histology of the Centre of Anatomy of the University of Gottingen. Here he stayed until December 2006, first as a Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter (1993-97) and Wissenschaftlicher Assistent (1998-2002) ie researcher/lecturer at two different junior levels, and then as a Wissenschaftlicher Oberassistent (2002-06), ie researcher/lecturer at a more senior level. In the period spent in Göttingen he obtained the German Licence to practice Medicine, the degree Dr.med, the qualification as Fachartz für Anatomie (Clinical Specialist in Anatomy), and the Habilitation in Anatomy. This is an academic qualification typical of the German system which enables to represent a given subject, in this case Anatomy, at university level independently in Research and Teaching. From January 2007 until December 2015 he was Senior Lecturer in Anatomy at the National University of Ireland Galway, and since January 2016 he holds a Chair in Anatomy at the University of Glasgow

His main research interests are focussed on structural/functional relations of the biological role Basement Membranes and of Extracellular Matrix, including their cellular interactions and signalling, in particular, in relation to the structure of the skin
