Russian Metallurgy (Metally) Aims and scope

Abstract—Based on the process of selective nickel and cobalt recovery developed at the Baikov Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science, we study the influence of the temperature of reduction roasting of the Buruktal oxidized nickel ore (ONO) on the technological parameters of sulfuric acid leaching of a cinder. The phase compositions of the cinders that form during reduction roasting in hydrogen and carbon dioxide atmosphere upon gradual heating of the ore from 400 to 750–850°C are studied, and the dependence of the degree of nickel and cobalt recovery on the reduction roasting temperature during sulfuric acid leaching of a cinder in pH media is determined. Under the optimum roasting and leaching conditions, the nickel recovery is found to be 99% and the cobalt recovery, 83%.
