Abstract

In the modern epoch, phasor measurement units (PMUs) are deployed within the power grids for real-time supervision of the grids’ static and dynamic behavior as the complexity of power grids has increased manifold due to the integration of extensively different generating resources. This paper presents a stability study of measurement class for reference phasor measurement unit for 1 year using the traceable PMU Calibration System at CSIR-National Physical Laboratory, New Delhi with ± 50 ppm to ± 100 ppm uncertainty. The PMU under test is evaluated for measurement class (M class) critical parameters for steady as well as dynamic performance analysis at 50 frames per second (fps) reporting rate with nominal frequency of 50 Hertz (Hz). The performance of PMU is evaluated and tested in conformance with IEC/IEEE 60255-118-1:2018 standard. A very stable reference PMU has been demonstrated for the transformation and enrichment of the power sector enabling an adaptive, reliable, sustainable, and digitally robust ecosystem.
