Abstract

Coal and rock dynamic disaster is a major threat to coal mine safety worldwide. To further understand the tensile properties and multiparameter response characteristics of coal at different loading rates, Brazilian splitting tests were carried out for coal specimens with different loading rates, and their acoustic emission (AE), infrared radiation temperature (IRT), and deformation field were monitored synchronically. The tensile properties, multiparameter response characteristics and energy evolution were analyzed, and the correlations among AE, IRT, deformation field, and dissipated energy were discussed. The results showed that the maximum AE hit rate and AE absolute energy correlated positively and negatively with the loading rate, respectively. The standard deviation (SD) evolution of IRT for coal specimens under different loading rates showed a trend of “fluctuating rise → slow increase → fast increase → rapid rise,” and the SD evolution of horizontal displacement in the coal specimens under different loading rates showed a trend of “slow increase → linear increase → rapid increase.” The energy evolution of the coal specimens was the same under different loading rates, while the dissipated energy increased with loading rates and correlated positively with peak stress. Correlation coefficients ranged from 0.23 to 0.99, indicating that there was positive correlation among the parameters. With increasing loading rates, the correlation coefficients increased first and decreased before increasing again.
