Michel Boufadel is a distinguished professor of environmental engineering and director of the Center for Natural Resources. He is a professional engineer in New Jersey, and a Board Certified Environmental Engineer in the United States. Dr. Boufadel’s expertise is environmental fluid mechanics and mathematical modeling of environmental systems. His work relied on using hydraulic systems of various scales to tackle oil spills. He has built and operated wavetanks and flumes of various sizes, and applied the findings to tackling major oil spills, such as the Exxon Valdez oil spill, the Enbridge oil spill in the Kalamazoo River in Michigan (in 2010), and the DWH oil spill. Dr. Boufadel has more than 200 refereed articles in publications, and served recently on five National Academies committees in relation to oil spills. He is also Editor-in-Chief of Marine Pollution Bulletin (Elsevier).

Chunjiang An is an assistant professor in the Department of Building, Civil, and Environmental Engineering at Concordia University, and Concordia University Research Chair in Spill Response and Remediation. His research interests include a broad range of topics related to pollution control, risk assessment, and systems analysis. Dr. An is a licensed professional engineer, associate editor, and editorial board member of 8 international journals, and the guest editor for 8 special issues in some international journals. Dr. An has published over 130 peer-reviewed journal articles. Dr. An's interdisciplinary activities have been supported by some research grants from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
