Electrochemical synthesis of sulfonyl fluorides from sulfonyl hydrazides

Abstract

The synthesis of sulfonyl fluorides via the reaction of sulfonyl hydrazides and Et3N·3HF under electrochemical conditions is reported. Various sulfonyl fluorides were obtained in good yields under a constant current of 15 mA for 10 h in CH2Cl2/DMSO. It was found that n-Bu4NI acts as an electrolyte and a redox catalyst to produce sulfonyl radical species from sulfonyl hydrazides.
