The Development of a General Classification of Continental Ecological–Geological Systems

  • Published:
Moscow University Geology Bulletin Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Abstract—The issues of developing a general classification of continental natural and technogenic ecological–geological systems that are the subject of research in modern ecological geology, are considered. A classification that considers the composition and characteristics of the components of ecological–geological systems is proposed.

Additional information

Above all, separate bodies – minerals, rocks, plants, and animals – and phenomena, as well as individual forces of nature, – fire (volcanism), water, earth, and air… but not their relationships, which are not genetic, eternal, or always regular, exist between forces, bodies, and phenomena, between nonliving and living nature, between the plant, animal, and mineral kingdoms, on the one hand, and human everyday life and even the spiritual world, on the other. Meanwhile, it is these relationships and these regular interactions that constitute the essence of the knowledge of nature… the best and highest beauty of natural science. V.V. Dokuchaev (1899, p. 5)
