Abstract

Following the grapes, strawberries are the second largest group of berry fruits cultivated worldwide. Together with increasing production, increasing quality runner needs are not able to be met sufficiently in Turkey. The primary objective of the present study was to get high-quality strawberry runners. Experiments were conducted in 2014 and 2015 to investigate the effects of different chemical treatments (humic acid, IBA (indole butyric acid) + NAA (naphthalene acetic acid), microelement and glycine amino acid) on runner quality parameters of ‘Kabarla’ strawberry cultivar. Experimental treatments were applied 4 times to plants 50 days after transplanting in 15-day intervals. As compared to control treatments, experimental treatments had significant contributions to runner quality parameters. Glycine amino acid treatments significantly increased number of runners in both years but did not have any significant effects on runner quality parameters. Humic acid treatments had significant positive effects on runner height, root length, root fresh and dry weight; IBA + NAA treatments had significant contributions to runner height and number of roots; microelement treatments had positive contributions to root dry weights. Present findings revealed that economical runner production could be practiced in Kayseri province with a high altitude and dominant terrestrial climate.
