Effect of Boronizing and Aluminizing on the Wear Resistance of Steel AISI 1010

  • Published:
Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

The structure and the tribological properties of steel AISI 1010 are studied after boronizing and aluminizing in powder mixtures at 850°C for 1, 3 and 5 h. The effect of the duration of the thermochemical treatment on the thickness of the diffusion layer, the surface hardness and the wear rate of steel AISI 1010 is determined. X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive analyses are performed and adhesion tests are conducted according to the Daimler Benz classification. The states of the surface layers are shown to be satisfactory both after the boronizing and after the aluminizing.
