Abstract
The possibility of using a conventional power transformer to obtain test pulses of high surge current, which are necessary to test power semiconductor devices, has been considered. An electrical circuit has been developed, and an analytical apparatus to determine transient processes in this circuit has been considered. It is concluded that the power consumption of a conventional transformer can be halved when using it to obtain high pulse currents. A direction for further studies associated with the use of power transformers with a special design has been indicated.
