The Role of Humic Acid Application on Quantitative and Qualitative Traits of Faba Bean (Vicia faba L.)

Die Auswirkungen einer Huminsäurebehandlung auf quantitative und qualitative Merkmale der Ackerbohne (Vicia faba L.)

Abstract

Humic acid comprises the major part of humic substances and the most important component of soil organic matter (humus) that increases crop yield and quality. This research aimed to investigate the effects of amount and time of humic acid (HA) application on quantitative (plant height, seed yield, biologic yield and harvest index) and qualitative traits (seed protein yield, moisture, and nutrients) of faba bean. The plant was cultivated in a research field (Chalus, Iran) during 2014–15. There were HA treatments at four levels (control, 200, 300, and 400 mg L−1) and three spraying times (before planting, mid-vegetative growth, and early reproductive growth). Results showed that plant height, harvest index, and seed moisture and nutrients were influenced by HA treatments. Seed and protein yields were uppermost in 200 and 300 mg L−1 of HA treatments, respectively, at mid-vegetative growth stage. The highest levels of seed moisture and nutrients were obtained with 300 mg L−1 of HA application at mid-vegetative growth stage in the second year. Increasing HA levels led to improvements in all the examined traits, except the harvest index. According to the results, HA foliar application of 300 mg L−1 is recommended at mid-vegetative growth stage to achieve optimum seed yield.

Zusammenfassung

Huminsäure ist der Hauptbestandteil der Huminstoffe und die wichtigste Komponente der organischen Bodensubstanz (Humus), die den Ertrag und die Qualität der Pflanzen erhöht. Ziel dieser Untersuchung war es, die Auswirkungen der Menge und des Zeitpunkts der Anwendung von Huminsäure (HA) auf quantitative (Pflanzenhöhe, Samenertrag, biologischer Ertrag und Ernteindex) und qualitative Merkmale (Samenproteinertrag, Feuchtigkeit und Nährstoffe) der Ackerbohne zu untersuchen. Die Pflanze wurde in einem Forschungsfeld (Chalus, Iran) während 2014–15 angebaut. Es gab HA-Behandlungen in vier Stufen (Kontrolle, 200, 300 und 400 mg L−1) und drei Spritzzeitpunkte (vor dem Pflanzen, in der Mitte des vegetativen Wachstums und im frühen reproduktiven Wachstum). Die Ergebnisse zeigten, dass Pflanzenhöhe, Ernteindex sowie Samenfeuchtigkeit und Nährstoffe durch die HA-Behandlungen beeinflusst wurden. Die Samen-und Proteinausbeuten waren bei 200 bzw. 300 mg L−1 HA-Behandlungen im der Mitte des vegetativen Wachstums am höchsten. Die höchsten Werte für Samenfeuchtigkeit und Nährstoffe wurden mit 300 mg L−1 HA in der Mitte des vegetativen Wachstumsstadiums im zweiten Jahr erhalten. Steigende HA-Werte führten zu Verbesserungen aller untersuchten Merkmale mit Ausnahme des Ernteindex. Entsprechend den Ergebnissen wird die HA-Blattapplikation von 300 mg L−1 in der Mitte des vegetativen Wachstumsstadium empfohlen, um einen optimalen Samenertrag zu erzielen.
