Abstract

A particularly important aspect of offshore engineering is the stability of pile foundations. The pile foundation not only bears the load from the superstructure but also resists harsh marine environments. How to quickly, effectively and accurately identify the bearing capacity is an important aspect of evaluating its service status. To achieve this goal, a method for determining the horizontal bearing capacity of offshore pile foundations based on distributed strain data is proposed. A horizontal bearing capacity test of an offshore pile foundation has been designed and implemented. The horizontal bearing capacity of the test pile foundation can reach 900 kN, which meets the design requirements. The cloud images of P–y curves are obtained through distributed strain values. This approach is more accurate in identifying the stress concentration area of the pile. The theoretical P–y curve is calculated according to the American Petroleum Institute recommended method. Through a comparative analysis, the accuracy and reliability of the P–y curve calculated by distributed sensing technology are verified.
