Abstract
The main objective of this paper was to find a relation between the velocity propagation of seismic wave and the density of the historical masonry. To obtain this information, a testing program was performed to measure the velocity of the waves in samples of a laboratory of different types of masonry and in situ from structural elements of a scale model church. According to the velocities measured and Gardner´s relation, the density of the masonry was calculated. Also, a regression model to estimate the density was obtained from the measured velocity waves. Two analyses were conducted to obtain an adequate approximation of the density of the masonry. The first was a comparison between the density measured and the density calculated using Gardner´s relation. The second was a comparison of the density measured and the density calculated using the proposed model.
