The Morphologies, Defects, and Impurities of Diamonds in the Zapolyarnaya Pipe

Abstract

A representative collection of Zapolyarnaya pipe diamonds of the first commercial production batch has been studied by the IR, PL, and EPR morphological analysis methods. The medium–low-N diamonds are the most similar to Daldyn–Alakit diamonds (Yakutia) in terms of their composition and ratios of impurity centers. The typomorphic features of the Zapolyarnaya pipe diamonds include the predominance of curve-faced dodecahedroids, highly developed dissolution, etching, and plastic deformation processes, an almost maximum content of B2 IR defects, a minimum of H, and widespread W7 paramagnetic centers.
