Abstract
This note is a response to a letter entitled „National Propensities? “ by David Mills and Kirsten Bell that comments on our article on “Predatory publishing in Scopus: evidence on cross‑country differences”. We welcome their interest in our work but we do not find most of their opinions to be productive. In this response, we answer their criticism, clarify some methodological issues and argue that their comments do not significantly alter interpretation of our results.
Notes
Since at the time of writing of this response our article was only available as forthcoming in the “Latest articles” section of the journal’s webpage without pagination, we cannot provide page numbers for the quotes. Likewise, we cannot provide page numbers for quotes from Mills and Bell (2021), as their text was provided to us without pagination.
The database of journals on Beall’s lists that are indexed in Scopus is available for download as supplementary information for our paper. The full list of journals on Beall’s lists that are identified in Ulrichsweb is not included in the supplementary information, but it is available upon request from the authors.
