Abstract
This article deals with the question of how innovation methods can contribute to the success of in-house innovations. We use a case study to show how we used the Google Design Sprint methodology and the design science research (DSR) pattern according to Sonnenberg and vom Brocke to develop in-house software. While the Design Sprint helped in finding the right solution approach for an unclear problem in the shortest possible time, in our case the DSR pattern allowed a deep investigation of a solution space.
In the case study, we describe the development of an intranet portal that lists tools and their areas of application in the company, as well as contact persons, in a user-friendly way. The innovation methods were used for the initial product development as well as for its further development. Along the way from the first executable prototype to a productive enterprise application, we applied further practices to establish the software solution for the long term. From these experiences, we derived tips for internal company innovations.
